The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has launched consultations for the National Export Development Plan (NEDP) 2025–2029.
Objectives of NEDP 2025–2029:
- Enhance export competitiveness: Through modernization of production techniques and adoption of digital solutions.
- Diversify export markets and products: Expanding beyond traditional markets to Europe, North America, and East Asia.
- Promote sustainable growth: Encouraging eco-friendly, climate-conscious exports.
- Boost SME participation: Supporting small and medium enterprises to become globally competitive.
Stakeholder Engagement:
The consultation process involves exporters, industry associations, government bodies, and policy experts to ensure that the plan addresses both local realities and international market trends.
Economic Significance:
Sri Lanka aims to achieve USD 20 billion in exports by 2029, leveraging trade agreements such as GSP+, bilateral FTAs, and regional cooperation with India and ASEAN nations.
Analyst Comment:
“This comprehensive roadmap is essential for positioning Sri Lanka as a resilient export-led economy post-crisis, and it provides a blueprint for long-term growth,” said an EDB official.
